BOARD RESOLUTION No. 2 series of 1988
Pursuant
to section 6, paragraph (a) of Presidential Decree No. 223, creating the
Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and prescribing its powers and
functions,
Section
11, paragraph (d) of R.A. 5527, an Act requiring the
requiring the Registration of Medical Technologist, defining their practice and
purpose, the Board hereby institutes a Continuing Professional Education (CPE)
for Medical Technologist, and adopts the following guidelines for accreditation
thereof.
I. Introduction
The Medical Technologist as a Professional registered
with the Professional Regulation Commission is obliged to pursue Continuing
Professional Education (CPE) that will ensure his/her continued technical
competence and professional growth and development. The Philippine Association
of Medical Technologists (PAMET) believes in sustaining the professional growth
of every practicing Medical Technologist through programs which upgrade and expand
his/her technical knowledge, skills and capabilities.
II. Objectives
To enhance and maintain high professional and
technical standards of practice of Medical Technologists in the country for an
improved delivery of clinical laboratory services to the Filipino people.
III. Accreditation Committee CPE
The Accreditation Committee is hereby created and
vested with the responsibility of affecting a system by which registered
practicing Medical Technologists in the country shall have Continuing
Professional Education duly accredited for renewal of registration by the
Professional Regulation Commission.

B. Functions
1. Evaluate and accredits scientific activities for CPE of Medical
Technologists
2. Assigns CPE units for each accredited scientific activity
3. Formulates, adopts, reviews and amends the rules and guidelines for
accreditation and assignment of CPE units and requirements for renewal of
registration
4. Initiates and promotes scientific programs/ activities that will
provide opportunities for CPE or Medical Technologists and
5. Disseminates information relating to CPE of Medical Technologists as
contained in this resolution.
C. Meetings
Regular : First Wednesday of the month on a
bi–monthly
Basis
Special : To be called by the Chairman, on the
initiative of the

basis.
D. Quorum and Presiding Officer
Four or more members constitute a quorum. The
chairman presides over all meetings.

50 CPE units per day

4. In–service Training (Practicum) for a specific field of study
5 CPE units per hour, maximum 100 CPE units
5. Postgraduate Course
Non–degree program – 3 CPE units per hour, maximum
25 CPE units per day

a. Ongoing – 5 CPE units for every subject completed maximum 75 CPE
units/year
b. All subjects completed, pre–thesis – 100 CPE units
c. Thesis successfully defended – 100 CPE units
d. Degree obtained – 200 CPE units
6. Workshop
5 CPE units per hour, maximum 30 CPE units/day
7. Active participation in the Scientific Activity
a. Primary Speaker or Lecturer – 50 CPE units
b. Panel Speaker – 30 CPE units
c. Moderator – 10 CPE units
d. Facilitator – 20 CPE units
e. Coordinator or Organizer of Scientific Activity – 15 CPE units
f. Chairman or Secretariat of Convention – 15 CPE units

Published (principal author) – 200 CPE units
Ongoing – 30 CPE units

Contributor – one half of CPE units of the principal

9. Teaching activity
a. Faculty in a school, College or University with DECS approved course in
Medical Technology: one CPE unit per lecture hour load, maximum 20 CPE units
per year.
b. Supervisors in a Clinical Laboratory training Medical Technology
interns: one CPE unit per lecture hour, maximum 20 CPE units per year.
c. Audio – visual Aids for Teaching
5 CPE units, maximum 20 CPE units
10. Scientific exhibit in

Principal Exhibitor – 30 CPE units

11. Subscription to Scientific

V. General guidelines in the
accreditation of Scientific Activity and assignment of CPE units
1. Relationship of the subject to Medical Technology
2. Its contribution to the professional competence of the registered
Medical Technologist beyond the beginning competencies
3. Its enhancement of the professional standards, values and ethics of the
Medical Technologist
VI. Minimum accredited CPE units
for renewal of registration
To renew their registration, Medical Technologist
must earn:
1. 30 CPE units per year, or 90 CPE units for a three year period
2. Medical technologists practicing in localities too remote from the
sites of scientific activity to acquire the minimum required CPE units for a
given year are required 15 CPE units per year or 35 CPE units for a three–year
period.
3. CPE units acquired for a given year above, and beyond the minimum CPE
units required, shall not be credited to a succeeding year within the three –
year period.

VIII. Procedure for Accreditation
of Scientific Activity assignments of corresponding CPE units, renewal of
registration
A. Sponsoring Organization, Society or Institution and others (refer to IV
above)
1. Submit in person or by registered mail the program of the scientific
activity, accompanied by the prescribed form CPE MT–1, accomplished in
triplicate and self–addressed stamped envelope to CPE Accreditation Committee,
Medical Technology Board, PRC.
2. Submit the list of attendees, participants or registrants within one
week after the accredited scientific activity is held.
B. Continuing Professional Education Accreditation Committee
1. Returns Forms CPE–MT–1 with the assigned accredited CPE units to the
organization, society or institution within one week after receipt of the
request.
C. Registered Medical Technologist or Participant in the Scientific
Activity
1. Submits the CPE certificates with the corresponding CPE units and
accomplished form CPE–MT–2 in triplicate (Xerox copies) to either the PAMET or
the Accreditation Committee – CPE–MT at the PRC for processing and issuance of
the renewal card.
2. Submits to the Registration Division, PRC, the renewal card obtained
either from the PAMET or the AC–CPE–MT, PRC, for renewal of registration
D. Registration Division, PRC
1. Renews the registration of the registered medical technologist when
renewal card is presented together with the other requirements of the division.
IX. Effectivity
These guidelines shall take effect upon approval by
the Professional Regulation Commission and after fifteen days following its
publication in the Official Gazette
