CLASSIFICATION
OF CLINICAL LABORATORIES BASED ON INSTITUTIONAL
CHARACTER
Administrative Order
No. 59 s. 2001 “Rules and Regulations governing the establishment, operation
and maintenance of Clinical Laboratories in the Philippines” Section 5.2 states:
Section 5.2
Classification by Institutional Character:
5.2.1 Hospital–based
laboratory – a laboratory that operates within a
hospital
5.2.2 Non–hospital
based laboratory – a laboratory that operates on its
own
In response to the need
for a more comprehensive and appropriate classification of clinical
laboratories suited for the prevailing setting, Section
5.2 of Administrative Order No. 59 s. 2001 is hereby amended as follows:
Section 5.2
Classification by Institutional Character:
5.2.1 Institution–based
laboratory – a laboratory that operates within the premises and operates as
part of an institution (e.g. hospital, multi–specialty clinics, schools,
medical facilities for overseas workers and seafarers).
5.2.2 Freestanding
laboratory – a laboratory that operates outside the premises of an institution
and operates independently.
All other provision of Administrative
Order No. 59 s. 2001 shall remain in full force and effect.
